Fear of Man

Author: Mike Sonneveldt
Being accepted into the social group seems to have some type of biological inspiration behind it. We look at social acceptance, and recognize that it's extremely scary for a person to be cast out of the social group. Imagine, if you will, a tribe in the middle of the jungle. They're surrounded by all kinds of dangerous animals, plants and terrain. To walk out of the protection of the circle is to invite many different dangers to prey on you. So you cooperate with your small community, and everybody shares in the hunting, gathering of food, cooking, and building of homes, etc. One night, you say something that nobody in the tribe likes. They all look at you like you've got three heads. The chief leans in and asks you to repeat what you just said. You, with some naivete,… read more

For Your Pastor

Author: Mike Sonneveldt
I spend a lot of time writing when I'm working on Self-Evident material. Most of you have probably already learned that a large amount of content produced by Self-Evident has been written in some way, shape, or form by yours truly. Producing content continues to be a passion of mine. I enjoy the research, I absolutely love to write, and I'm spiritually motivated. I want to go after all areas of society and culture. I want them for Christ, and if I get to use my skills and talents to help raise up disciples in these areas: then game on. But sometimes, you wonder whether you're actually making change with everything you're doing. There's a difference between throwing a bunch of paint at the wall, and using a roller to make a pristine new wall color. With the deluge of content… read more

Crowder v Daily Wire

Author: Mike Sonnevedlt
I've been watching the whole controversy between Steven Crowder and the Daily Wire with interest. Not because I love drama and the resulting fall-out, but I think it has become a showcase in media contract negotiations and the state of conservative media. If you aren't caught up on the whole issue, I would highly suggest you go back to Crowder's first video in which he highlighted sections of a non-binding agreement with the name of the organization offering the agreement blacked out. He gives heavy, passionate criticism of certain sections, and argues that those sections are tantamount to aligning with Big Tech. The Daily Wire's Jeremy Boreing (co-CEO) took an hour to admit it was theirs, and respond in video form, going through the entire contract and putting forth why they… read more

Down With McCarthy

Author: Mike Sonneveldt
***EDIT*** UPDATE: Supposedly, there may be a deal, but the information is confusing at this moment as this goes out. Zerohedge reports some new concessions made by the McCarthy camp to those holding out. As this story changes and morphs, we'll do our best to keep up. The changes: A one-member “motion to vacate”: The GOP leader appears to have finally acquiesced to a demand to lower the threshold needed to force a vote ousting a speaker to just one member. While McCarthy originally indicated that restoring the one-member “motion to vacate” was a red line, his allies now argue that there’s not a huge practical difference between this and his previous offer of requiring five members to trigger the vote. Rules Committee seats for the Freedom Caucus: McCarthy is … read more

A New Years Revolutionist

Author: Mike Sonnevedlt
Happy New Years! We're all gearing up for the New Year and making our plans to celebrate. Every year, people gather together, pop champagne, eat snacks, go to parties, watch the ball drop on television, and finally: make New Years resolutions. The New Years resolution is an interesting practice, and has been the fodder for a lot of jokes and criticisms over the years. I'm sure, at this point, that the resolution is now considered fat-phobic, racist, sexist, and any other -ist it needs to be in order to stop hurting people's feelings. For a long time, people have used the brand new year to tell themselves they're going to change something about themselves, and make the resolution to change up bad habits or a lifestyle they know is not healthy or productive for them. And… read more
